Motorola: Goodbye Moto?
After the announcement made by Motorola that its evalauating the mobile phone business unit. It may come as a shock to many fans of the pioneering handset brand after successful comeback of their stylish RAZR series took the brand into contention. But Motorola have been struggling with sales especially outside the US. They are well behind the innovative Nokia and fast growing Korean Samsung Electronics.
Quoting from their webite, Greg Brown the President and CEO said:
“We are exploring ways in which our Mobile Devices Business can accelerate its recovery and retain and attract talent while enabling our shareholders to realize the value of this great franchise.â€?..”the company’s alternatives may include the separation of Mobile Devices from its other businesses in order to permit each business to grow and better serve its customers.”
But is seperation of the unit enough or is there going to be an imminent sale? But to who? To a seasoned communications player or a newcomer? And how will this affect the industry and consumers.

Oh what a shame, I have loved motorolas ever since the RAZR v3 came on the scene. I do hope watever they decide it ends up in the hands of an innovative company. Personally i think HTC of taiwan would be a good prospective suitor. good luck
