NVIDIA Acquires AGEIA Technologies
NVIDIA have announced that they will be acquiring AGEIA Technologies, the leader in gaming physics technology, for undisclosed fee. NVIDIA which well ahead of ATI in the gaming graphics industry, is also the world leader in visual computing technologies and the inventor of the GPU, has had a successful year with some some healthy profit margins. Thus one might say they got the cash to splash about.
AGEIA’s PhysX software is widely adopted with more than 140 PhysX-based games shipping or in development on Sony Playstation3, Microsoft XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii and Gaming PCs. AGEIA physics software is pervasive with over 10,000 registered and active users of the PhysX SDK. The buyout will give NVIDIA a bigger percentage of the market share and puts in a greater position to resist competition from AMD’s ATI.
