Global Online Advertising Reaches $45bn, and $147bn by 2012
Internet advertising continues to grow at a faster rate than previously estimated. According to estimates by the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) inconjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers, US Internet advertising revenues for 2007 have grown by 25% to $21.1 billion from $16.9 billion in 2006. Even quarter revenues have grown exponentially producing record level revenues.
“Interactive media continue their unabated growth, said Randall Rothenberg, President and CEO of the IAB. “There is no media as measurable as interactive, and they provide products and services at the precise moment a consumer desires them. I applaud the industry on maintaining this extraordinary momentum of innovation, which has fundamentally changed the way we live today.
In a similar annual forecast released by The Kelsey Group, online advertising in 2007 is put at $45bn globally. And it is also been estimated that global online advertising revenues will increase significantly from US$45 billion in 2007 to US$147 billion globally by the year 2012.
“It’s no surprise that the global advertising industry is experiencing a full-scale shift to mixed-media platforms, with interactive driving a significant share of overall industry growth, said Matt Booth, senior vice president, Interactive Local Media, The Kelsey Group. “We see Internet development—including increased subscriber/user access and broadband penetration—as a driver of both interactive advertising revenue as well as migration of traditional ad spending to new media platforms.
