Windows Mobile to use Flash Lite (for the moment)

microsoftMicrosoft have licensed Flash Lite for its Windows Mobile operating systems. In an agreement with Adobe it seems that the OS will now be supporting both Microsoft’s Silverlight and Flash Lite. Silverlight for mobile isn’t ready yet and analysts are expecting it by the end of the second quarter.

But many sceptics might be saying why are Microsoft allowing a direct rival, Adobe, compete on their own platform against the new child Silverlight? Isn’t this like shooting yourself in the foot? But I don’t think so. Even with Silverlight for mobile not out yet it is a smart move to allow Flash to co-exist on Windows Mobile as both developers and users will have freedom and choice to use both and use web apps that support the technologies.

We know Apple wont rush to put Flash on the iPhone because it is too slow for them. So I guess Apple, just like the rest of us are waiting to see what and how Silverlight for mobile will look and perform. Nokia will be the first to show us as they are already on the Silverlight bandwagon

In the same news Microsoft has also licensed the Adobe Reader LE software, so that Windows Mobile users will be able to view PDF documents. (MacWorld.com)
