Intel’s Atom puts the Internet in the pocket
At the Intel Developer Forum in Shanghai this week, Intel introduced five new Atom and Centrino Atom processor technologies for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and embedded computing solutions.
According to Intel MIDs are;
” true mobile devices that enable the best Internet experience in pocket-able devices. MIDs will allow consumers to communicate, entertain, access information and be productive on-the-go, and are expected to represent a new class of next-generation, Internet-based portable video players, navigation devices, converged tablets and other consumer products.”
The processors are the Atom (codenamed Silverthorne), the smallest and the world’s fastest chip under 3 watts, plus a single-chip with integrated graphics called the System Controller Hub that will enable MIDs to have capabilities similar to those of PCs. Thus making MIDs have an uncompromised Internet experience and long battery life while on the move.
