Grand Theft Auto IV does $500m in first week
The Grand Theft Auto IV video game has lived up to its hype as the most anticipated game of the year by breaking first week sales records, not just in gaming history but in all entertainment records as well. With global sales of $500 million from about 6 million copies in first week sales only it sure has surpassed Master Chief’s Halo 3 which did $300 million and to rub more salt into Hollywood wounds it has also doused first week movie record for Spider-man 3.
GTA IV has had some rave reviews despite being controversial for its high levels of violence and not-for-family content. It has for sure boosted sales of Xbox 360 and the PS3, but with the coming of Gears of War 2, november of this year, I am kind of think this year in sales will belong to the Xbox 360.
According to PlusNet, a UK based ISP, GTA IV also broke online gaming records by having at least 90000 (UK) users gaming it out in Liberty City at one time. We shall wait for Gears of War 2.
